Goals.
Have you ever set goals?
Goals are never meant to be achieved.
They serve a totally different purpose.
Hi, I'm Reverend Ali Bierman, and I'm glad you joined us here today for the Let's Get Metaphysical Show, where we talk about what you love, what in your life is so important to you, that it's a big, intricate part of how you live in each moment.
For me, a goal is something to keep you on your path.
A goal is something that changes over time.
Let me explain why I've come to that conclusion.
For many years, I lived in Idaho.
I lived out in the country, out up on a ridge.
I could see for 25 miles all around.
One thing that was fun to see, there was a famous ski resort.
I could watch the cars riding round and round going up the mountain.
It was really cool when there would be a cloud that was hovering over the mountain.
And then, when I'd see the car pass through, they were in the sunshine.
That's how I see goals.
It's something that changes over time.
A goal is something to keep you on a path, but it's not a be-all, end goal.
As you're climbing your mountain, as you're reaching, taking steps toward your goal, guess what?
You change.
Why do you change?
Because you have a new view.
You might have a new view physically.
You might have a new view, a change of heart, a change of opinion.
And when you change, your goal is going to be altered, to go along with where you are now.
And the higher you get up your mountain, the closer you get toward attaining the goal, the more you see.
Think about being in a mountain.
You have one view of the world if you're at the bottom of the mountain.
And then you go round and round and you're up a little higher.
All right, you have a whole different view.
You might be seeing the whole valley, but then you go up even higher.
And now you're seeing like I did up on that ridge for 25 miles around.
I saw all kinds of things that couldn't possibly have been seen if I didn't live up on that ridge, if I had never gone up any kind of mountain to get a different type of view.
When you're setting a goal, keep in mind it's okay to change as you step toward the goal.
You're going to change with each new step.
And that is why your goal has to change.
The direction, the desired end, it's going to be altered, maybe completely different than what it was before.
